Ricky & Lucy

Ricky and Lucy are the newest members of our family. They joined us in Jan 07, quite by accident. I was part of a transport from a shelter in East Los Angles and we were to transport Ricky & Lucy to The Bunny Castle Rabbit Rescue, in Bishop, CA. Ricky, a Dutch Hybrid had been at the shelter for over a year and his time was coming up. So a transport with the RWBGRR was set up. I agreed to meet a volunteer at a halfway point and was to take this beautiful couple up the rescue in Bishop. The Bishop rescue had over 200 rabbits with little chance of adoptions and I was told that Ricky & Lucy would be in a garden pen on the patio becos there were no cages available. Well..right then in my heart, I knew they would never reach their destination...the hard part would be to convince my husband Dwayne that they were better off here with us especially since we already had eight rabbits! ;-) So, in January we brought them here and I had a room set up for them. They settled in quite quickly and quite well, though Ricky was a bit more timid than Lucy...who knew from the start she was home. Having ten rabbits now was an adjustment for everyone. I had to learn how to manage my time and get the rest of the clan use to the 'visitors'. I held my breathe and figured if I didn't complain it would be better for us in the end...that worked! Two days before Valentines Day, hubby decided to give me my Valentines Day / Anniversary gifts early and told me that he had decided Ricky & Lucy needed to be here with us! This was by far the BEST gifts I had ever received and was moved to tears knowing we would be able to keep and save at least two more precious rabbits!

Ricky is very smart and very sensitive. Also very opinionated (typical Dutchy behavior) LOL I once had to chase a bird out of a tree *outside his window* becos the chirping was upsetting to Ricky and he started thumping and wouldn't stop! Such a silly bun! Lucy is just a bun full of fun and she just loves getting out time to run and binky and crash into things. They are both larger rabbits then the rest of the bunyfarm (10-12lbs each) but are often times intimidated by their smaller family members, which is truly hysterical! Both love to jump up on high things and I've built them a NIC condo that they can get up onto! They love shredding their large phone book, and their bunny safe wicker balls and other rabbit toys. Lucy loves her drinking fountain and I find her foot in it most times she's drinking!

Having a clan of ten rabbits, in five bonded pairs keeps me *very* busy. I wouldn't trade this for all the money in the world. I love how these rabbits have enriched my life so much. I truly believe we are better people becos of these rabbits. I cherish each and everyone of them and learn so much from them everyday. I'm a dedicated true blue rabbit slave!
