Birds and Exotics Animal Care is a full-service veterinary and surgical facility specializing in the care of birds and exotic animals including rabbits. Located in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, we are easily accessible from I-526 and Hwy 17. Please click the logo above to go to our website, where you will find directions to our clinic as well as comprehensive information on the services we offer, the history of our clinic and staff, and many other interesting facts and photos, including information on spaying and neutering as well as dental examinations and trimming.
We recommend that rabbits visit us biannually so that we can monitor any changes in weight, diet, habits, or any other concerns that may arise. We urge rabbit owners to spay or neuter their pets, as rabbits are prone to reproductive tumors, cysts, and cancers, and also to hormonal aggression and other unwanted behaviors which may develop if the rabbit is not spayed or neutered.
We offer pre-adoption consultations for those who are considering adding a rabbit to the family but are unsure if they are ready to take such a big step, as well as comprehensive post-adoption physical examinations and husbandry instructions. We want to insure that every new rabbit owner knows their pet's special needs, including proper diet, housing, and care. With proper diet and care, rabbits can live long and healthy lives and are treasured members of the family. We are here to keep our bunny friends and their families healthy and happy.

Some of the most common issues we see in rabbits are dental disease, gastrointestinal stasis (not eating/defecating), reproductive disease, and head tilt/lack of balance. Proper diet, husbandry, and veterinary care are vital to help prevent and resolve these issues.
Some signs that you have a rabbit EMERGENCY and need veterinary attention IMMEDIATELY are:
Not eating
Not pooping/small or few stools
Having runny/mushy stools
Fecal or urinary staining or matting
Drooling
Not urinating or urinating too frequently
Dull or unkempt coat
Having difficulty breathing
Having difficulty walking
In pain for ANY reason (signs may include hunched posture; teeth grinding; vocalization; bulging, unfocused eyes; and rapid, shallow respiration)
