Floppy Bunny
Genuinely Gentle Bun
How was I to know that such a wonderful handsome gentleman rabbit was to come into my life. After my sweet Alex Rabbit passed away from an illness, I didn’t know how I could love another rabbit like I loved her. Well, it is true; I could never love another being much less a rabbit LIKE I loved Alex Rabbit. However, I can certainly love others differently. I miss Alex Rabbit very very much. I have decided, though, that rather than wish upon Alex, thinking how things could have been with her still here; that in memory of my special Alex Rabbit, I would do whatever I am able to help out her species.
A girl at my chiropractor’s office kept asking me if I wanted a rabbit. First I had Alex Rabbit, so I said, “No”. She continued asking even after Alex Rabbit passed away. I needed to mourn Alex Rabbit before I could get another rabbit. It wouldn’t be fair to the new rabbit family member. I was told that Floppy was a 2003 Easter Bunny rabbit. First she told me the rabbit belonged to her boyfriend(1). Then, because Floppy would dig at the carpet, he gave Floppy to her(2). She couldn’t care for him, so her sister(3) took care of him every so often. Then, she gave him to a friend(4), who did keep him for a while.
One month after Alex Rabbit passed away, I KNEW I would have another rabbit or more. I received a call from the girl and she explained that her friend could not keep Floppy because she was moving. She asked if I would be interested in taking Floppy. I did not hesitate to say yes. I learned that Floppy was on a full pellet diet and would only get parsley or greens just for treats. He had never been taken to the vet, and he spent all day in a small cage not big enough for him to stand nor big enough to stretch out. The girl knew that she could no longer care for him because he had just gotten too big. I know she had good intentions because she did talk about him a lot, but she just wasn’t able to commit to him the way he needed commitment.
On the day I was to pick up Floppy I was very excited about meeting him and bringing him home. I had never even seen a picture of him before. I only heard about him all the time. I was quite amused when I saw that he was a large version of Jami Rabbit. As soon as I saw him, I absolutely adored him. The girl and I spoke briefly about Floppy Rabbit and she gave me his toys and food that were left.
He was pretty upset about the move, but I talked with him. I knew he wouldn’t feel comfortable until he saw for himself that everything was okay. The drive home, he was just being aware of what was going on. I continued to tell him that everything was okay, but I think that was more for my mind than his because I was hoping that he would know and understand eventually that it WILL be okay, but at that moment, he was pretty frightened and confused.
More coming soon...
