BunBun
I adopted BunBun in April of 2007 from a young mother who did not have the finances nor the time to take care of “Ghost” (this was the name that was given to her at the time.) It was never my intent to have a rabbit, the young lady asked me to help her find a home for it. The more I thought the more I figured, I already had 5 cats and three dogs, what was another mouth to feed. Never ever did I imagine what a joy this bundle of white fur was!! Ghost, as it were, had not been touched in 8 months, not thinking, I reached in and got her and there was an immediate bound. She did not try to fight me or protect her kennel. I think she was glad to be touch and cuddled. As anyone will tell you that knows me, I love animals of all kind and my pets are all “spoiled rotten.” If they live with me they have to co-exist…plan and simple. Ghost now “BunBun” had to be the same way and she fit right in….she plays with the dogs as if they are litter mates, doesn’t matter that they each are about 50 pounds!
At the encouragement of a family member I called the retirement home in Orangeburg, SC, called “The Methodist Oaks” and asked if I could bring Bun for a visit. By this time Bun was very accustomed to riding in a baby stroller, much to the disbelief of a lot of people.
Our first visit was so very rewarding that since, we have made many trips….each time more fun than the time before. Bun has been held by so many people he has no problem being handed from one resident to another. She has her own Halloween costume, Christmas suit and of course the everyday attire. Our Christmas program at church this past year was a first time visit for Bun…our church is very small and little to no children, however at Christmas time like most families we get together more, therefore there would be a few at the program…I surprised them all by strolling Bun in…..those children were amazed, as were our church members. Once again Bun turned on the charm. I was in the dentist office just this week and someone came up to me and said aren’t you the one that carries “BunBun-The Rabbit” to the nursing home…this was 30 miles away from The Oaks, so I would say Bun has make quite an impression on a lot of folks.
I have no idea how old Bun is, because the young mother acquired her for someone else. However I do know this……..I am the third and FINAL parent of BunBun.
