How Can I Help?
There are so many ways that you can help the Lowcountry House Rabbit Society save more bunnies and educate the public about their care! We are desperately seeking volunteers for a variety of duties!
This page is still under construction, but please check the help opportunities below, and check back soon to see more!
Volunteer!! We are desperate for help!
We are still seeking lots of help on many levels. If anyone is interested in assisting with any of the following, please let us know!
- Record keeping
- Website updates (most of this is simple if you are computer savvy, you don’t need to know much about websites with our online tool)
- Adoption coordinators – this does require lots of good rabbit knowledge, but we love to have people learn!
- Writers for the newsletter – please by all means submit an article!
- Newsletter layout – we have been using MS Publisher, but if you are proficient in another program we are happy to let you use that if it is compatible with our needs!
- Foster homes – we need both short term, emergency fosterers for situations that may arise when a rabbit needs somewhere to stay temporarily. We also need longer term foster homes for rabbits to stay until adopted. Ideally, a fosterer will learn the adoption process so that he or she may screen potential adopters though this is NOT a requirement.
- Hotline calls and email inquiries – we need help answering the many inquiries that we receive on our hotline and via email. This does require some rabbit knowledge ideally, but you can certainly learn as you go! We have a schedule set up where each volunteer is responsible for all inquiries on his or her assigned day(s).
- “Handyman or Handywoman” – occasionally we need help with odd handy jobs. Right now the task at hand is completing the finishing touches on some of the bunny condos that were built at Day of Caring last fall.
- Hay delivery – roughly every 6-8 weeks, we need someone with a truck to pick up hay from Cordray’s Red Top Feed store on Hwy 17 and bring it to West Ashley. Ideally, when the hay is delivered we can have help getting much of it bagged up and ready for sale. Vicki & Michael and Susan & Ernie have been very helpful with this thus far, but more help is always needed in case their schedules are full. Anyone who may not have a truck but is willing to come and exert some muscle to bag up the hay is always welcome—please let us know if you would like to help!
- Petsmart Bunnies - We have adoptable rabbits housed at the three area Petsmart stores--Summerville, West Ashley, and Mount Pleasant. We are short by 2-3 people at each location. We need helpers who can visit one of the stores 1-2 times a week to care for the rabbit(s) there; this takes 1-2 hours each visit.
This is only the beginning, and as things pick up we will need more help in several other areas too! If you have a special talent or hobby that you feel would benefit our group, please do not hesitate to ask if you can help!
Foster!
With more foster homes, we could save the lives of so many more rabbits. Right now we have only two foster homes as well as the Petsmart Adoption Center, for the entire Lowcountry area. Do you have a guest bedroom that you rarely use? An open floor plan that would accomodate an exercise pen for a bunny? What about a place in your heart that wants to save lives? Contact us today about fostering a homeless rabbit!
Shop!
So, you like to shop?! Sign up for our program online through iGive and shop at over 600 online stores, all of which will donate a percentage of your purchases to our homeless rabbits!
